Premium price market to build production volumes

The key to commercialisation is securing premium price markets to build manufacturing volumes and bring the cost down.

SGG has identified such a market, which is ideally suited to our DAC product offering. This market is protected cropping where plants are grown in controlled environments and where is has been proven that elevated levels of CO₂ can increase crop yields by up to 40%.

Using market data SGG has estimated this market has a bearable price of CO₂ over $1000 per tonne for existing protected cropping facilities. Of particular interest is the polytunnel segment which is an untapped CO₂ opportunity as they currently do not use CO₂ enhancement.

SGG’s DAC module is ideally suited to this market segment for six reasons

1. Polytunnel are usually suited in locations with good solar resource and low cost land.

2. DAC based on site generation of CO₂ gives the polytunnel operators secure supply.

3. SGG has configured its DAC module to produce CO₂ during daylight hours which is in sync with when the polytunnel uses CO₂ for plant photosynthesis.

4. DAC adsorbent co-produces water with CO₂ which can be a problem for some markets but is a positive for cropping.

5. CO₂ can be easily and cheaply piped throughout the polytunnel without impacting existing water/nutrient delivery systems.

6. DAC modules, each one tonne per year capacity, can be incrementally added as the cropping operation expands.

The size of protected cropping market globally is 6.5 million hectares in area. If all this market used CO₂ for enhanced yield, this would equate to an estimated 80 million tonnes per year of CO₂.

SGG has undertaken extensive market research and existing polytunnel operators are receptive to CO₂ yield enhancement especially where increased value can be extracted from existing facilities.

In addition, a strongly emerging market is the CO₂ enhanced production of algae in raceway ponds, noting that algae is a good source of non-meat protein and Omega oils.
